Sobe as Antepassadas (Rise of the Foremothers)

(2014)

Sobe as Antepassadas is a performance installation representing the African divinities of the Ocean--Yemaya, Olokun, Mami Wata and Nana Buruku. Created for the Body Politic Think Tank at YBCA, this piece looks at the polarities of human joy and shame that are contained within the largest body of water on this planet--the ocean.
