and the liminal space of now
hold on to your breath
freedom is not free

WE MOVE WE:

Ritual, Revolution and SPIRIT Thru Movement

In this movement based workshop we will come together as bodies of color and practice ritual and revolution in our soul's truth, decolonizing identity itself and liberating our authentic BEings through movement.

Drawing inspiration from dances for the Orishas/Orixas (divinities of the Yoruba tradition know as Ifa/Lukumi/Candomblé), we will start with a slow, deep body warm up, learn basic movements and principles of the Orishas/Orixas, learn short movement sequences, and engage in guided movement free style/improvisation to call our spirits forth!

We will explore the energies/spirits of nature that we inhabit/that inhabit us -- independent of gender or gender non- conforming expression -- and use a combination of movement, writing and dialogue as tools for personal and spiritual liberation.

We will move, dance, write, draw, play and dialogue from an Afro Femme perspective regardless of gender/non gender conforming identity.

No previous dance experience necessary.

Bring a note book and wear your favorite clothes to get sweaty and funky in!

Length: 1 ½ or 2 hours

Shadow Digging:

Embodied Excavations of Grief and the Grieving Experience

This workshop is designed specifically for QPOC folkz. It  is an opportunity to co create safe space to be clumsy and vulnerable while we unpack identity, and internalized structures of oppression and privilege as a means to find the holy  ground within us.

We will write, dialogue, dance/move, betray our comfort and leave with more questions than answers.

Participants should plan on attending the whole workshop.

No previous movement experience required and all physical abilities welcome.

Length: 3-4 hours
